Bartlesville to Host 2014 AABC World Series
Bartlesville played host to the 2013 American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) Sandy Koufax Division World Series this past August and the BSC has recently learned that they will have the honor to host the event again August 6-10, 2014. This past August teams from Puerto Rico, Washington, Illinois, Tennessee and New York were joined by the host team Bartlesville Bruins for four days of competition. The 14-and-under tournament was sponsored by the Bartlesville Sports Commission and took place at Bartlesville’s showcase ballpark, Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.
The teams that came to Bartlesville each won their Regional Tournament to gain the right to come to the World Series. The tournament is a double-elimination format. Going into the final day of competition three teams had one loss. Puerto Rico defeated South Troy, NY in the first game of the elimination series, with Woodinville, WA defeating Puerto Rico in the championship game, 6-0.
The Bartlesville Sports Commission worked closely with AABC to provide a first-class event for the players and their families. A barbeque dinner was followed by water games on Wednesday night preceding the tournament. Thursday night was declared “Musselman Abstract Night at the Ballpark” and featured $50 drawings between innings. Friday night featured an appearance by Hornsby, the famed mascot of the Tulsa Drillers baseball team. On Saturday evening the attendees honored the Blue Star Mothers by donating items to be sent overseas to our servicemen and women in Afghanistan. These events added to the excitement of the tournament and were enjoyed by players and fans alike.
