The Bartlesville Sports Commission will be hosting the third annual Great American Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships March 5-9, 2014. Prior to the GAC championships the BSC hosted the Lone Star Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships for four years.  Both of these NCAA Division II conferences thoroughly enjoyed their time in Bartlesville, were impressed with both the facilities and the town and were very grateful to all of the volunteers who worked to put on the outstanding events.

The Great American Conference is headquartered in Russellville, Arkansas and is made up of six universities in Arkansas and five in Oklahoma.  A sixth Oklahoma school is to be added in the near future.  This makes Bartlesville a terrific geographic center for the schools to play their championships and also makes it easy for the fans to follow their teams.  With the addition of several new hotels in the last few years, Bartlesville has more than ample lodging available to accommodate teams, bands, cheerleaders, school administrators and fans – all within a few minutes of the arena.

The GAC Championship games are played in the local high school gymnasium located just south of downtown Bartlesville.  This facility is only seven years old and boasts four locker rooms for the teams, two locker rooms for the officials as well as a locker room for cheerleaders.  In addition it has a state of the art trainer’s room with access to all teams.  The facility has two hospitality rooms for coaches, officials, school administrators, media and tournament personnel as well as a media room for media personnel as well as an interview area for coaches after the games.  Many of the coaches and players from the conference teams have commented that this is the best facility they have played in throughout their season.

The BSC has over 300 volunteers that help to put these tournaments on. Most of these volunteers have worked the six previous championships and have already signed up to work the 2014 tournaments.  The BSC has shown over the past six years that they put on well-run, professional tournaments and that is why the players, coaches and school administrators love coming to Bartlesville!
