Bobby Joe Green
Green made the 1950’s All-Decade Team, scoring 3 touchdowns in the All-State Game. He was NJCAA 1st Team All-American at Northeastern Oklahoma A & M in 1957 and went on to the University of Florida for a distinguished career as a punter. Green was chosen to the University of Florida All-Time Team in 1983 as First Team Punter and again, to the Florida Gator All-Century Team in 1999. He still holds the school record for single season punting average: 44.9 yards on 54 punts in 1959. His record punt of 82 yards vs. Georgia, in 1958, still is the Univeristyof Florida’s longest punt. He also played at running back, as the fastest player on the Gator team. He also ran track as a sprinter at the University of Florida. In the 1959 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers took him in the 9th round, then in 1960 he was picked in the 2nd round of the AFL draft by the Denver Broncos. Green punted in 1960 and 1961 for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He moved to Chicago and from 1962 to 1973 punted for the Chicago Bears. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 1970 season. Bobby Joe passed away May 28, 1993.
